Midge Point was almost unknown until 1992 when the Turtle Point golf course at Laguna Quays resort was opened. The resort, immediately north of Midge Point, on an area of 1850 ha, has been renamed Laguna Whitsundays. Developed by Japanese investors, it was a acquired by David Marriner in the early 2000s for $26 million, 10% of the original cost.
